I didn't think that story really did justice to a leaving character, so i wrote one I don't know much about Yana Rhuw so this proved trickier than i thought.
The rain beat harshly against the windows, rattling the panes in their frames. Yana turned restlessly in her bed, unable to sleep for the gale blowing outside. Sighing, she leant over to her bedside chest and lit a candle, casting a flickering orange glow across her bedroom. “Well if I can't sleep, i'd best do something” she murmured, taking a small leather-bound journal out from under her pillow. She stops for a moment, the quill against her lips pensively, deciding what to write... bang Almost jumping out of bed at the sound, Yana dropped the quill and the book. The noise had come from downstairs, and she was alone in the house. bang Wrapping herself in a robe, she crept out of her room with the candle in one hand, a small iron dagger in the other. If there were thieves in her house, they had another thing coming. As she neared the bottom of the stairs, she poised herself, ready to strike at any intruder. bang She leapt around the corner, dagger outstretched, pointing towards the empty space of the room, but that was all she was pointing at...empty space. She was alone in the house, and a window slammed open and shut in the harsh winds. Yana breathed heavily from the adrenaline, and chuckled to herself. My, how she had worked herself up over a window rattling in the wind. She placed the dagger down on a table and walked to the window, bolting it shut. As the excitement wore off, Yana clambered back into bed, drawing the covers over herself, grateful for the warmth. She blew the candle out and curled up in the warmth, the sound of the rain against the windowpanes now soothing. The floorboards creaked sharply, but she didn't move from the bed, dismissing the noise as nothing. She thought about how scared she had been about an intruder in her house, and she smiled. There was nothing to be afraid of, not here. As she drifted off into a deep sleep, she ignored the creaking floorboards, and the first she knew of the zombie that had come in through her window was when it its cold, undead hands wrapped around her neck.
