Benn Maxilium, during his younger years he was a strapping lad who took instruction from his father to learn to become a blacksmith and forge weapons and armor for others. He soon married a beautiful woman named Serena who he had known almost his entire life.
Benn's father was a great soldier and was Captain of the guard in the town they lived in called Eveless (Ev-ill-us). He was a great warrior and carried out his General's orders without flaw, though he had only one good arm. The other limp, and useless due to a birth defect. Luckily Benn had not been born with this same defect, though he had been born with his fathers temper. At one point in his life he had nearly beaten a man to death for glancing at his wife. Though he was many things he was certainly not a soldier. He was a family man and of all things did not want to go to war and leave them alone.
After Serena had brought their son Roan into the world he was one of the men 'selected' to be dragged away to war. So he ran from Eveless and was chased for a long period of time, they eventually gave up. Being only one soldier he was not worth finding at this time. So he escaped and fled to a small village far away from Eveless with his family. They lived happily, though they had not the money to buy certain things like a new home and lived in an abandoned shed. But they lived peacefully until one night Benn had made the decision that if he could go fishing and catch at least four fish his wife and children could sleep full that night.
So he went out, and caught the fish he needed to feed his family, on the return trip he saw smoke in the distance. He had seen the signs, they were new to the village, everyone shuffled around always in a hurry to get off the streets. It was the Harula slave drivers, it seemed that they had been harassing this village about sending able slaves to sell on the market. The Harula were vicious race of men that lived in the desert, taking claim to anything they found, including people. He dropped the fish he caught and ran home in time to see the devastation that the Harula had brought. Bodies everywhere, everyone who had lived in the village was dead. He ran to his home as quickly as possible to see his wife hung from a noose around her neck, dead. He went inside hoping to find his Son Roan, all he found was the bloody torn shirt that his son had been wearing when he left. Not willing to fight back anymore he wandered into the desert, alone, hungry, and without purpose. The Harula found him and took him to sell on the market, though they could see he was a very fit man and put him into being a gladiator.
Every day, and every fight could be his last. Though he was not a man of war his father had taught him before his death about the art of war. He knew mans fears and weaknesses, as well as how to fight with a long sword and fire a bow accurately. The only thing his father left him when he died was his family sword, the finest blade in their nation, crafted by his grandfather, a master blacksmith. He had never used the blade, never had he needed to, and the Harula took it from him. They could see it's fine craftsmanship and knew it was a soldiers blade. After all, it was made for his father during a bloody war. He was trained well and won many battles, each of which made him stronger. He was known throughout the arena's at that time as Benn the Blade, the man with no honor.
They had said he had no honor to try to discourage him from leaving the arena on his winning victory at a grand city. But when he had arrived at the city to fight his last battle disaster struck. The undead hordes attacked and slew many, many men. Giant arachnid's climbed the walls and silently killed the men on the walls, as if it was planned. And the skeletons of past Roman archers fired over the walls signalling for the attack to begin. Undead swarmed the walls and with sheer numbers pushed through the gates of the city and slew many men. Benn was geared for his fight and when they let him out through the gates he came out to a swarm of undead flooding into the arena. While many ran he stood his ground with a few other gladiators and began slaying the undead hordes. He led the other gladiators out of the arena when the gate guards were killed by undead that opened the gates hoping for fresh blood inside. They burst out, not seeking revenge for past wrong doings of these men, but to escape the bloody sight that was the city. Luckily they were able to follow the mass of people to the docks and sneak into one of the store rooms of a ship. They had made it away, and took off their armor in exchange for clothing they found in the hull.
When the ships docked the gladiators and himself snuck off the ship unnoticed and went their separate ways. Benn left for a nearby village called Ala' Meir. He met a few new people such as a man named Lucius, Lach, and Kryzstof. They were all kind, though Lach went insane soon after he arrived and was killed when he attacked one of the other villagers. Benn was accustomed to being the 'new guy' in the village, but it seemed the village was nearly brand new. Rome seemed to find them very quickly, Benn almost started on the chase again but it seemed after years of being a gladiator threw them off and they knew not who he was. Having no family to protect he joined the Legion, it was quite a legion it was. All new soldiers, though few veterans (npc's) were stationed at Augusta. They had quite a few adventures, as him and Kryzstof had ventured into the lost mines and soon found out why it was given that name. He had met quite a few new people that all greeted him kindly to Augusta.
Though he was a great gladiator he had been beaten only twice in the arena. Once by Lucius, and once by Kryzstof, two very able fighters. He had also paid them back and beaten them as well. Kryzstof had become a General after some time, and Lucius a Officer. When Kryzstof left to lead the entire army itself Benn was made General of the army, though he led them justly he had made two dire decisions in his time. One of attacking the cult known as the Cult of Discordia. He had not lost, in fact he had a quick victory, though Kryzstoff did not approve of the attack and was disappointed by his lack of control, but he was not punished. Though the other mistake is not for others ears, it is a mistake he made that he would rather not repeat.
When he was General he had one true opposition that could bring early Augusta's downfall. The Harula, as if they had come out of no where they appeared and attacked frequently, though Benn retaliated and drove them back. When a new city was formed the Harula realized that two opposing forces on the same front was too much for a small developing town. They agreed to peace though some of the Harula did not want peace. They overthrew their current leader and began attacking again, though now they called themselves 'Harula Rebels'. Their leader was short sighted and only wanted war, nothing else. Before long Benn found them and wiped them out with the help of Lucius and his Cohort. The final attack was ruthless and Benn killed the leader in front of his own men brutally and threw his head to the dogs. Benn had become a killer, no longer the man that only fought to protect his family...
Soon after he finished hunting down the Harula he was exiled from the city and the army for disobeying direct orders not to directly engage the Harula. He left the city and all of the glory he had accumulated over the forty or so years he fought in the army. He took a wagon and told the man with the reigns to take him as far away from the city as possible, he did not want to see it again. He traveled for what seemed like an eternity before arriving at the lands of Talarra.
Before he could ask the man where exactly he had taken him he had turned around and started on the journey back. He now looks for a place to live, but there is no mistaking the blood that has stained his hands. He is a ruthless killer, and nothing less than a dead man in killers body.
